A guide to your child's Test Shot Photo Session

A guide to your child's Full Photo Session
How does Childsplay Models work?

If you apply for your child or children to join Childplay Models and we think that from their photograph they have modelling potential we will send you our full information. You will be invited by our sister company, Allsorts Design, to bring your child to their studio for some test shots. Allsorts Design's photographer will take approximately 4-6 test shots and will observe how your child or children behave in the studio. Once the test shots have been taken you will be given free careers advice regarding Child Modelling and joining Childplay Models. This takes a relaxed line enabling us to talk to the potential candidate and gauge their personality and talents. We encourage self expression, so if there are any particular skills or attributes you or your child wish to show us we welcome the opportunity to view them. We will also explain in more detail how Childplay Models works and answer any questions you may have.

You will be advised if we consider your child suitable for modelling and if that is the case they will be offered a contract with Childplay Models. If we feel that your child is not ready at this stage we will advise you and if possible suggest options for the future.

Most child agencies promote their models by producing model catalogues on paper once or twice a year or by putting the images of the children they represent onto a website. Childplay Models produces an interactive model catalogue on CD-Rom. This enables us to ensure our children are seen quickly by our clients. Each child has a page which has one large colour photo and a smaller photo together with information regarding the child's details. The CD-Rom Catalogue is updated regularly and circulated to our carefully selected clients. Babies photographs are updated half way through their contract free of charge to ensure our clients have up to date pictures at all times.

How much do Childsplay Models's services cost?

The fees to cover our expenses upon joining Childsplay Models are as follows:

Catalogue Production Fee - £170.00
If you are accepted by Childsplay Models you will be told how to join the agency but you will not be asked to make a decision on the day - we like you as parents to have time to think about whether joining Childsplay Models is right for both you and your child/children. This amount to cover the expenses of placing your child on our CD-Rom Model Catalogue should be sent back with the Enrolment Form which will be handed to you at the conclusion of a positive assessment and is payable prior to an appointment being arranged for a photo session.

The fees charged by Allsorts Design to cover their photographic services are as follows:

Test Shots with Allsorts Design
Allsorts will take approximately 4-6 test shots and will observe how your child behaves in the studio. Once the test shots have been taken you will be given free careers advice regarding Child Modelling.

The cost of the test shots is £25 for one child, £32.50 for two children and £5.00 per child extra per child for more than two. This is payable on the day by cash or cheque (with a valid cheque guarantee card). After they are taken, the test shots taken will be emailed to you for your own personal use.

Photographic Session with Allsorts Design - £60.00
At the commencement of your child's photo session you will be asked to pay the balance of the fees due, being £60.00. This is to cover the cost of having a professional photographic session taken in our studio.

The photo session will involve taking high resolution digital photographs (usually between 12 - 18 images) from which we will chose the best two photographs to be included on our CD-Rom Model Catalogue. The resulting digital photographs will be forwarded to you on CD a minimum of eight weeks after the photo session and are yours to keep.

Children under three years of age at the date of joining Childsplay Models are entitled to return for an update photo session once they have changed noticably in their appearance. This is usually approximately six months after the first session. The cost of this is included within the fees payable.

Please Note:

If you have already had professional photographs taken of your child or children in a studio these can be used as long as they can be supplied to us as high resolution jpg files on a CD or other readable media.

If your child is entitled to a free update photo session, it is the responsibility of the parent to book this once the you feel your child has changed sufficently. Childsplay Models will not call you to make this appointment as we do not know when your child has changed sufficiently.

All of the above costs cover a one year contract with the agency. They relate to the charges for one child unless otherwise stated. Identical multiple births are classed as one enrolment.

Should you have any queries regarding the above please do not hesitate to contact us.

Why do I have to pay to join a Child Model Agency?

People are often told by Adult Model Agencies or friends that you should never pay fees to join an agency. This is true for Adult Model Agencies but they run in a different way to Child Model Agencies. Adult models usually have to pay for their own photographs and promotional material and are then sent around to see different clients at their own expense.

Our clients expect Child Model Agencies to produce promotional materials (Model Books, Websites, etc) so that they can see models before calling them to an audition. Childsplay Models now produces its Model Catalogue on an interactive CD-Rom which allows clients to search for specific ages, ethnic groups, height, hair or eye colouring, etc. This catalogue is then distributed to all the photographers, casting agents, advertising agencies, directors and other clients on our mailing list so that they can look up which children they want to use for their castings. The Childsplay Models CD-Rom Model Catalogue is updated 3-4 times a year, so that our clients always have the most up-to-date photographs and statistics of our models.

In line with current employment law the money you pay to Childsplay Models is to cover the cost of producing your child’s page on our CD-Rom Model Catalogue, including design, production and distribution costs.

A guide to your child's Test Shot Photo Session

The Test Shots will take place in the small professional studio of our sister company Allsorts Design, based at the same address as Childsplay Models. The Test Shots take a friendly, relaxed line so as not to overwhelm the children and enabling you all to enjoy the experience. It also provides us with an opportunity to observe your child’s reaction in front of and behind the camera and allow us to make constructive comments to yourself.

Please take note of the following guidelines regarding clothing for the Test Shots:

Babies and children up to three years please bring one outfit. Comfortable, easy-fit, non-restrictive outfits are best, or an outfit that your child enjoys wearing. It is important that babies and young children are as comfortable as possible. Lace, frills, ties, earings and other jewelry, bow ties and braces are not suitable.

Children aged three years and upwards please wear one outfit that the model enjoys wearing and feels comfortable in. Please try to avoid any advertising with names or big logos that appear on the clothing.

Due to the use of a white backdrop in our studio, white clothing is inappropriate - white clothing will literally fade into the background as will anything too pale such as pastel shades.

Black clothing is also inappropriate - black clothing will appear flat and without texture.

Please dress your children in strong, bright colours.

You will receive a copy of all of your child’s Test Shots via email, so you will need access to an email address with a minimum attachment allowance of at least 5MB. Unless you are informed otherwise, this is usually done within one to two working days of the test shoot.

We hope that you and your child will enjoy having the Test Shots taken. Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the Childsplay office.

The Full Photo Shoot will take place in the same small professional studio that is used to take the Test Shots.

It is important that babies and young children are as comfortable as possible. Lace, frills, ties, earings and other jewelry, bow ties and braces are not suitable.

Children aged three years and upwards please wear one outfit and bring a contrasting outfit. The purpose of a change of outfit is so that Childsplay and our clients can view the model in different ways with different looks. The two outfits can either be sporty or casual and something smarter or two different looks/outfits that the model enjoys wearing. Please try to avoid any advertising with names or big logos that appear on the clothing.
